As soon as I sat down to write this blog post, I could already hear people replying “I look at pictures on my phone all the time”. I strongly believe that we should all be taking candid photos and video of our friends and family as much as we can. What easier way to do that than with our cell phone? Keep doing it! Don’t ever stop. But that isn’t what this post is about, this post is about you, your friends, family and guests.
It’s easy for people to just lump “photos” into one category, especially more than ever since we are a digital society now. However, it is becoming increasingly more important for you to focus on displaying photos in your home. Let’s dig into this deeper and see why.
La Familia!
The most obvious reason you should be displaying photos in your home (not house, we will get to that later), is to see your precious family. Family has various different meanings to each of us, but the main focus here is the group of people you call family. These are the people who mean the most to you, that have influenced you, raised you, supported you, these are the people that need to be celebrated and remembered. It is easy to say “I will always remember this moment”, but time has a funny way of changing things.
This is why you should be taking photographs and printing them out and displaying them in your home. I get it, life gets busy, but having that memory pulled from your head printed, framed, and displayed is a physical reminder that can’t be forgotten. You could be stressed out or upset and just simply walk by a photograph of your child and that changes your day, which could change someone else’s day as well!
Celebrate your La Familia (family) with photos! Baby photos, toddler photos, a family vacation, weddings - these are all important moments of our lives, and they should be displayed proudly for everyone to see. Displaying a photo not only brings a smile to your face, but it also let’s those loved ones in your home know that you appreciate them enough to hang their photo.
Building a Home not a House
Right before my wife and I were married, we were having our first house built, it was a stressful time, building a house and planning a wedding. I’ve been married for almost 15 years now, and I still remember a story Pastor Mel told during my wedding ceremony. He said that “Matt & Christen just finished building a house, but today they are building a home”. Home is where your heart is, it doesn’t matter if you live in a house, apartment, tiny home, camper or travel the world in a bus. It is important to have photos that touch you on display in your Home. There is always room for memories, even if it’s a few 5x7 portraits of your kids, or a 4ft x 5ft canvas from a special vacation you took.
You want to surround yourself with positive energy, and I can’t think of a better way to create constant positive energy than photos that remind us of the good times, the special times, friends or family. There have been many times that a photo I’ve had hanging on my wall has put balance in my life. It has caused me to reflect on how I’ve grown and the good things in my life. You should definitely try it.
Where do I Start?
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but not all of us are HGTV interior decorating stars. It is hard to visualize what photo you should get to hang on the wall. This is where the professional comes in. Photographers, by definition, are artists. A proper photographer will take feedback from you, and create a piece of art in the form of a photograph. They should help guide your wardrobe (or at least work with your requests) and create a mood/feeling to it. That could be a black & white photograph to give it a classic vibe, or a bright, and airy photo to really bring out the bubbly attitude of your kids. There is real artistic talent when you get a photographer to help create a vision that you didn’t even know you had!
Did you know, photographers are also great in helping guide you on options to print those amazing photos on? A classic blank & white photo could be printed a matte print and framed with a blank frame and white matting…. or you let them know of your farmhouse style in your house, they can show you options for printing your photos on metal or wood. YES! METAL AND WOOD PHOTOS! - There are a ton of mediums for your photos to be printed on and they are each designs to give you the best options to create that positive energy vibe you are looking for.
Reach out to your photographer (if you are reading this on my blog - click the Contact link above :) - and schedule a photoshoot to create memories for your Home. Don’t wait, and do it regularly, you should constantly be creating new memories, I think you would be surprised at the different it could make.
